Speaker October 14
erin O'hara - Freedom Rock Prescott Valley

Erin O’Hara is the chair for the PV Freedom Rock Committee.  She considers herself a die-hard Patriot. Erin served in the Army for over 32 years, retiring at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Five in December 2022.

The PV Freedom Rock will be the first in Arizona
and will be a very distinctive landmark, bringing
visitors from all over the state and country.
Although the exact design for our rock has yet to
be revealed, it will be a unique tribute to
Arizonans, past and present in honor of their
service. The rock weighs 38k pounds and was
sourced from a construction site in Prescott.
Although the Town of PV gifted the land on which the rock will sit, the entire effort is funded by private donations, brick sales and in-kind services – so no tax dollars are being used.

The club met Saturday, September 27 for the very important step of envisioning our direction for the next 3 years. Participants brainstormed ideas in all 4 critical areas. They voted to see which four or five ideas were the most popular in every category.  These ideas were then sequenced for implementation as goals for the club over a three year period. Fighting polio wherever it's found

For more than 30 years, Rotary and our partners have driven the effort to eradicate polio worldwide. Our PolioPlus program was the first initiative to tackle global polio eradication by vaccinating children on a massive scale. As a core partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), Rotary focuses on advocacy, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and awareness-building.

ANNOUNCEMENTS and UPDATES

Fund Raising Committee: The fund raising committee met on September 30 to discuss what may become our “signature” fund raising event for our club.  It was decided that a few members of the committee would take an exploratory trip to Bullhead City January 16 & 17 to observe/participate in a Kansas City BBQ competition in hopes that we could follow their example and hold a similar event in PV.  This competition will take at least a year to plan so information gathering has begun.  It was also decided that smaller, easier fund raisers would take place this year to increase our revenue and experience prior to the major efforts toward the “signature” event.  CAN YOU HELP?  Any ideas for fund raising possibilities would be appreciated. Please share any fund raising ideas before the next committee meeting. Pass those ideas to President, John or President Elect, Evelyn.  The next meeting of the fund raising committee will be Nov 9.

Secretary Opening: Our club secretary position is still open.  Please tell Evelyn if you have any interest at all in helping out as secretary.  She will fill in for you if you don’t think you can make every board meeting or don’t have the time for every task.  Knowing you can share the workload may be helpful in finding a secretary.

Rifle Raffle:  Our ticket selling efforts continue. We are attempting to sell 400 tickets.  See Joe Sweeney or Jim Quinn for tickets. We have not yet sold half the tickets!

Visioning: Our club’s visioning session was completed on Saturday, September 27.  Four critical areas were explored including a. How do we increase our impact b. How can we enhance participant engagement c. How do we expand our reach d. How can we increase our ability to adapt. Participants brainstormed ideas in all four critical areas. They then voted to see which four or five ideas were the most popular in every category. These ideas were then sequenced for implementation as goals for the club over a three year period. Part of the October 28th rotary club meeting will be reserved to share the process and results with the club.

Board of Directors meeting:  The next meeting of the Board of Directors will be Tuesday, October 21 at IHOP in PV beginning at 5:00 PM

WhatsApp: In an effort to improve communication between rotary club members, a PV Rotary club community forum has been established by Zack Caldwell, “Uncle Zack,” on WhatsApp. Club members should have received an invitation from Zack to join the group.  Questions? …. ask Zack

Food Sort:  Another food sort was completed on October 11 on behalf of PV Food Bank.  Thank you to all club members who helped with the task.  Food Sorts happen on the 3rd Saturday of even numbered months.  They are held at Park Collective in PV starting at 8:30 AM and lasting approximately 3 hours. All members are encouraged to help with this ongoing service project.

ZZ TOP Performance:  Our club will be working concessions at the ZZ TOP performance November 13. A signup sheet was completed in September. If you are interested in helping with concessions at ZZ Top or future events at Findlay Toyota Center please see Diane Keys.

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI): Levels 1, 2, & 3 of RLI trainings will be held in Kingman, AZ on November 8.  Talk to Joe Sweeney if you are interested in attending leadership trainings.  Registration will be happening soon.
