John and Ivy have been happily married for 17 years and are the proud parents of four children.
John’s diverse career has taken him from the skies to the showroom floor. In the early 1970s he was a beloved traffic reporter, delivering updates to listeners across seven San Diego radio stations. In 1981 he earned his painting contractor license in California. From 1991 to 2017 he worked at the world-famous Imperial Palace Auto Collection in Las Vegas, where for more than a quarter-century he helped classic-car enthusiasts find their dream vehicles.
Yet it is John’s lifelong commitment to service that truly defines him. His volunteer journey began in 1970 with the Lakeside Fire Department in California, where he served as both firefighter and EMT. For two decades he also volunteered with the American Red Cross. He continued giving back as a Reserve/Volunteer Police Officer in Ceres, California, and later with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
In Las Vegas, John became a familiar voice on the airwaves again, hosting and co-hosting popular radio programs on KLAV 1230 AM for many years. Behind the scenes, he served on numerous nonprofit boards, medical advisory boards, and civic organizations, quietly shaping the community he loves.
Perhaps his proudest legacy is with the Nevada Wheelchair Foundation. As director from 2002–2006, and again from 2018–2024, John led efforts that delivered more than 11,500 wheelchairs—free of charge—to Nevadans who could not afford them, restoring mobility and dignity to thousands of lives.
A devoted Rotarian, John has served as president of the Las Vegas Rotary Club and remains an active member of the Las Vegas Lions Club.
Through seven decades of work and countless hours of volunteer service, John has lived the simple truth that one person, steadily committed, can change thousands of lives for the better.
